Flylady Baby Step Day 8 – Starting a Control Journal
Today, we’re going to start building a control journal. It’s a guide to keeping all of your habits/routines together in one place. You don’t have to make it complicated.
What Do You Need?
You can use anything you want that you already have at home, whether it’s a notepad, notebook, clipboard, or a binder.
I’ve gone through the Flylady Baby Steps a few years ago, and I still use my control binder every single day. My binder started with a few blank pages. Now it’s a full binder that keeps me productive in every part of my life.
In the video, I show you how I started building my control journal. It doesn’t have to be fancy.
I put lined paper in the binder. Then I added post-it notes, pencil, and pen in a pencil pouch.
Morning and Before Bed Routines
Then we have to write down the habits that we’re working on and put them in their routine section/paper, for example:
Write down “morning routine” and the habits that you’re working on.
Morning Routine
- Dress to Shoes
- Post-It Notes
- Flylady Emails
- Coffee(which is me being kind to myself because I love my cup of coffee in the morning)
- Hot Spot Clean
- Change Your Negative Voices Into Positive
- Clean Sink
Then on another piece of paper, write down before bed routine or nighttime routine and the habits that you’re working on.
Bedtime Routine
- Clean Sink Before Bed
- Layout Clothes for Tomorrow
- Do Another Hot Spot Clean
That’s all you need to write down so far. We’ll continue building our control journal throughout the rest of the Flylady baby steps.
If you would like, you can also put these pages inside a clear plastic sheet, so you could use a dry erase marker to check off the tasks for the day, then erase and repeat.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a plastic sheet protector. Just use what you have and continue working on your baby steps.
