When was the last time you cleaned your jetted tub? This cleaning does not include the casual wipe down while taking a shower. Specifically, we are talking about flushing out the whirlpool system. It’s recommended you do this once or twice a month, sometimes more. Depending on how often you use it.
If you don’t want to be swimming in mold and bacteria, you should add this to your to-do list this week. It only takes about 25 minutes from start to finish, and the jets do most of the work themselves.
Tips:
1) Make sure to rinse your tub before you begin to prevent a bubbling mess.
2) Read your bathtubs manual. Your manual should include the proper way of cleaning your bathtub.
Materials That You’ll Need:
Long Gloves
Bleach
Dishwasher Detergent
Scrubber and small brush/toothbrush
Microfiber towel
Step 1
First, you’ll need to make sure that all the jets are set to their open position. That way, each jet gets a thorough cleaning.
Step 2
Fill your bathtub about halfway with warm or hot water. Then add one tablespoon of dishwater detergent, this can be either liquid or powder. Make sure not to add dish soap. Or else you will have a BIG HOT mess on your hands.
You will also need to add 1/2 – 2 cups of bleach. I said to use 2 cups of bleach in the video, but make sure to use the exact measurements from your bathtubs manual. Some jetted bathtubs only need 1/2 cup of Bleach.
Step 3
Put your gloves on and mix the dishwasher detergent and the bleach in the tub. Now you’ll need to give all the jets and the bathtub a quick scrub to get scrub off any residue the jets won’t be able to remove.
Step 4
Now you’ll need to fill the tub up to cover the highest jet by at least two inches, make sure to use warm or hot water.
Step 5
Now turn on your jets for about 10 – 15 minutes. I love to set a 10-minute timer on my phone. I would set the timer for a longer time if I’ve skipped my regular jet cleaning.
Step 6
You’ll need to turn the bathroom vent on, run away, and make sure to close the door behind you. If you have kids, keep an extra eye on them to prevent any accidents.
Step 7
After 10 – 15 minutes, shut off the jets and drain all the water. While draining the water, make sure to wash off all the soap residue/gunk that was floating above the water while the jets were working.
Step 8
Now you’ll need to refill the tub back up to cover the highest jet once again. This time with warm water. Run your jets for 5 – 10 minutes and drain once again to make sure you got all the bleach out of the whole whirlpool system.
Thank you for stopping by and have a good day!
